I'm currently a Verizon Wireless subscriber, but am seriously considering jumping ship to T-Mobile in order to purchase the HD2. I think this handset absolutely ROCKS and after checking out the "unboxing" videos recently posted and having read many of the existing user comments by our friends across the pond that have had the device in their hands for several months, I'm pretty much sold on it.

My contract with VZW expired last month and I had been waiting for their newest HTC Android phone, The Incredible, to be released, however those that are testing it currently report that there is no SIM card slot on-board and thus it can't be used as a World phone, which is a requirement for me considering the travel I to Europe, the U.K. and Asia.

Not sure how many forum member are currently T-Mobile subscribers here in the states, but for those that are how happy are you with their coverage and network performance? I do a lot of traveling for the company I work for and am somewhat concerned about being able to receive data in certain markets given their lackluster 3-G network. I know it's much improved over the past few years and is in all major U.S. cities, but it's a far cry from Verizon's. I'm just worried that I'll have buyers remorse if I get locked into a 2yr deal in order to get the phone for $199.00. If I had another option other than AT&T I'd probably by it without a contract for $450.00, but I hate them and Sprint, which leaves me with T-Mobile or nothing.

Personally, I only recommend T-Mo to those have verified coverage in their area and who do NOT travel a great deal.  T-Mo has a LOT of dead areas in the US.  But if you stick to interstate highways and major metro areas, it does just fine.

Here's a link to their coverage maps, both voice and data:

Hope it helps...

I have been with Tmobile so long, that I cant remember when or how I signed up???

But I have yet, to have a desire to jump to any other out fit.

I can say this though.  Having worked for companys that give me phones to use at will, you learn alot about service. verizon,sprint, at&t

I will always say this. Screw verizon Angry
They have the some of the worst customer sevice.  They will sell you a phone in a hot minute.  But have some sort of a problem , well things seem to get annoying real fast!

With Tmobile, if ever I had a question or problem, the person infront of me or on the phone would never leave me frustrated.

@tavery80
I've seen T-mobile's phone and data maps and am aware of the coverage pitfalls, but thanks for providing the link. Essentially their 3-G coverage is in all of the major U.S. markets, but that's okay, as that's predominately where most of my travel takes me.

What drive time I do have when I travel is normally on freeways, so I should be good there from a phone standpoint. I would presume if you're not in a T-mobile cell you roam on AT&T's network given the similarities, would that be correct? If so, does this apply to data (AT&T's 3-G network) in addition to phone or just phone service only?

In cities I travel, such as Waterloo, IA where there wouldn't be data service availabe through T-Mobile I'd always have Wi-Fi as an option, so that wouldn't be the end of the world.

@scrmpyjack
I am aware that T-mobile has excellent customer service and in fact recently received an award from J.D. Power as having the best customer service of all the wireless phone carriers. That's quite impressive praise.

Truth be told, I've not had any issues or problems with Verizon's customer service and I've been with them for several years after having had an atrocious time with Sprint. Verizon's been great and their network is the best out there, but their phones have always been lacking behind their competitors and they don't provide many World Phone options outside of their BlackBerry line.

I currently have a 2.5yr old BlackBerry 8830 that I'm going to ditch for the HD2. It's been a solid device but the lack of a camera and good web browser has made it obsolete. I'm also tired of the physical keyboard and since having gotten an iPod Touch for Christmas, I much prefer the virtual keyboard now to it. I know my thumbs will thank me later down the road.  Cheesy

Thanks for the information from both of you and if someone could get back to me regarding roaming, that would be great!

@HD20 I have the same issue and what I did was  buy a nexus one on the plus program as that makes it month to month and then I carried it on my trips to see if all will be ok knowing I can sell the nexus one on ebay and cancel service.  Anyway all is good and I will be buying the HD2.  Just a suggestion,

HD20, I hear ya about replacing an older phone, I'm replacing my TMo Wing, which I got over 3 years ago... Horrible browser, at one time I had TMo's data plan for it, but ended up ditching it, b/c at that time for that phone, the EDGE network sucked. It was truly the phone, as I remember people with different phones not having the internet lag I did.

I'm psyched for the HD2, tomorrow can't come fast enough...
