Cool.
Havn't seen this one before:
6. Enable NaviPanel Without Owning the Car Kit/Navigation Dock
Go to Windows folder and copy NaviPanel.exe as a shortcut to Windows\Start Menu folder.

Anyone have step by step instructions?

I read the second link, lots of nice tips.  But, when the author says "reset", does that mean turning the phone off and then on again, or is it using the actual reset hole at the bottom of the phone?  And if the latter, would this change/delete/discombobulate any existing apps?

I'm sure he means soft reset, either pull battery, or push red button under battery cover.
Soft reset will not lose any apps or programs. just restarts device, Intializes whatever you were adding or changing.

Many thanks for that clairification.  I'd hate to have to battery cover off everytime I did some sort of tweak.
