a lot of you here have the phone already now and there are alot of people checking the forum for information.
thought it would be a good idea if you folks would post here with your personal pros and cons of the phone.

i know this is HTCHD2Forum.com but try keep an open mind with your cons list lol.

also post any other experience you feel you'd like to post, such as... the phone size affecting getting it in and out of your pocket.

Still getting to grips with it, but a few initial thoughts.

Pro's:

Fast - almost no lag on switching applications, very fast rendering of web pages and quick to locate gps satellites.

Gorgeous screen that works well in bright light as well as inside.

Works beautifully with Windows office and outlook

Cons:

Camera - image quality is just acceptable and lack of a dedicated shutter button is an annoyance

Price.

Mixed:

Size - great for two handed operation, awkward one-handed.

Applications - plenty out there but they need searching for - windows marketplace is not great

I agree about applications - WM apps used to be plentiful and varied (although you had to search for them) there are not many apps now optimised for HD2's WVGA capacitive non stylus interface. A lot of my old useful WM apps are virtually unusable on the HD2. Apple's store has shown how it should be done!

Having said that, this phone is a real pleasure to use - especially if you like (and are able) to customise the interface to suit the way you work rather than be forced to work according to someone else's interface (like iPhone).

I trust and hope that HTC will be able to upgrade this phone to WM 7. Rumour has it that this will be the case.

I think it's quite unfair comparing the iPhone's appstore to the Windows marketplace. Remember that the appstore is all aimed for one type of touchscreen, one general speed of processing, one resolution and one phone. The Windows range of apps has to cater for phones dating back to 2000 and as such, are not made for touchscreens, and even recently made for solely resistive touchscreens or the mixture of resistive and hardware keys.

Bear in mind this is the first capacitive WinMo phone, and especially the first with a 4.3inch WVGA screen.

fair point, but the fact still remains that the apps for iphone are better and more than the winmo phones.

Better is subjective. If you wish to be productive, then Windows Mobile apps are superior, as it is, at heart, a business-centric OS. If you want entertainment apps, the iPhone apps are superior as it as an entertainment-centric phone.

Also, there are actually more programs for WinMo than for the iPhone.

I agree with Sunil237.  Applications for windows mobile do not compare with the Iphone/touch apps.  Just to clear the air I have used Windows Mobile PDA-Pocketpc-Windows Mobile Phones for over 10 years dating back to when Ipaq was the most popular PDA.  I have also had an Apple Touch for the past year and we have to be honest…the apps are great.  Iphone/Touch do have their drawbacks one of which is the control Steve has on the O/S; maybe he hasn’t learned from the Macintosh (had one of those too).   All and all HTC’s HD2 outperforms the Iphone but apps are the name of the game.  Come on Windows Mobile developers….please take advantage of the HD2 specifications and build better apps.  Don’t be so concerned that there aren’t that many devices on the market that match the HD2 specifications:  If you build them they will come.

Hated it!
Sent it back after 5 days. Camera quality was appalling, using flash everyone had blue faces.
Screen just too oversensitive if you just move it, yet other times unresponsive.
Texting was a nightmare, I'm on call 24/7 and you cant reply to texts while in Tesco shopping for example , I'm too busy to have to use 2 hands to text!
Difficult to switch between applications without closing all screens and starting again.
Doesnt give the option to select whether you want to connect wifi or contract, just does it, and would cost a fortune abroad if you didn't watch the connection symbols - my Nokia asks you first.

Doesn't actually do anything my beloved N95 does, apart from a big screen with weather pictures that cant update your location - always unavailable. I went to Middleton on Sea one evening and remained there for 3 days with phone showing snow and it was brilliant sunshine!

The final straw was when I deleted my emails from my phone and they deleted from my pc too!!!! My Nokia asks if you want to delete from phone or phone and server, but not this one, oh no, just delete without warning! What a nightmare!

Cant wait for my Nokia N900

@cortina61: although some of your cons against the phone are valid for you, the rest are simple settings. I believe you didn't explore the phone to such an extent that you would find the settings to make it the way you want.

Sounds like to me that you wanted a perfect phone out of the box, which isn't the case for a windows phone. It comes with a lot of default settings and customization is one of the most important activities you do with a windows phone after purchase. The fact that it allows this kind of customization is actually one of its selling points.

Enjoy your n900.

well maybe, but putting a decent user guide in the box would have helped!
And at the price, well sorry but I do think it should work straight out the box. Its supposed to be a business orientated phone, busy business people have better things to do than faff around.
In the few days I had it I had to do a soft reset and then re enter all my email settings, wifi etc  again.
Never ever had to do anything like that before with any other phone, nor have my colleagues.
Seems to be a lot of new firmware and fixes, sorry, but if it don't work, don't release it.

@cortina61: I understand your frustration with the phone but a windows phone is not for everybody. What i mean is that the regular owner of such a phone is rather a poweruser. It requires more tweaking and more time discovering the phone. If you do not like that, its your choice. get a phone that "gets you" Smiley

Maybe I was lucky - but my phone worked (and has continued to work) perfectly out of the box. Setting up all connections (email, wifi etc ) took no more than 15 minutes. I have applied all of the hot fixes issued by HTC, but do not feel the need to apply the new ROM (1.48) I am still on 1.43, as it is working very well.
I have been using it since early December, and it is a pleasure to use.

i have got "1" :p
ordered about 24 hours ago and arrived a few hours ago, i just arrived though so now i can play Smiley

first thoughts;
nicely packaged.
happy to get case and 2gb card in pack, even though it wasn't stated.
the back case could have had a simpler way of opening, ok more complicated but easier is what i mean. i felt like i would scratch it if i tried too hard, but it didn't.
the extra void sticker they left in my box incase i wanted to send it back and say i didn't open it was a nice gesture :S lol.
the headphones feel good, but i'm going to be using my head phones i think to listen to stuff, just because they are a decent set of headphones.
i like the charging light in the top mesh bar rather than under the glass, good idea.

i'll update once i play around
