hi. i have recently got the htc hd2. i notice that it always seems to connect to the orange internet even though i diable it. does anyone have any idea why this is and how to stop it as im a little worried its going to hammer the usage especially abroad.

also

i have so called unlimited internet on my contract but in the small print says on a fair usage policy of 500mb per month. is this much on a phone cause i feel it sounds very little.

cheers to anyone who can help

regards deano

Where you are at 500MB might be fair. Here in the US we get a little more. I almost hit 5GB this month. Roll Eyes There are a few apps that will turn off your data connection.

A good one I believe is MoDaCo NoData.  Havent tested myself. Others have been mentioned on the forum lately. Try and give the forum a search and maybe someone else will chime in with others.

hi ago. 5 gb is a very scary thought lol. that would cost a small fortune on our networks. the trouble i have is that i run 3 mobile broadband on my laptop. that has a 15gb per month usage cap and there has been a couple of months where i have came close to using that. which is why when they print 500mb i first thought that it sounded very little. i am not sure whether mobile use a lot less data however. cheers for your reply mate

We are selfish hogs when it comes to the internet in the USA. I will admit that. Its all because of the iphone.  Grin I now use my router at my home as much as I can. My home isp is unlimited also. Music and video streaming eats up the bandwith quickly.

I have just fallen in love with using my HD2 to stream audio, video, and TV from my pc using ORB.  And using cellular data is just not the proper way to go hog wild. When using ORB with my router all data is transferred only on my lan. I just found that out recently. So I use no internet at all. Using cellular data that would be 5GB up on my home ISP and 5GB down on my cellphone. I guess that would be scary there.

the only way you will use up that data is if you stream videos and music. if you jsut surf like normal, even if data connection is always on, it won't make a dent in 500mb.

by the way, it is fair usage so if for some reason you do go over, they don't usually chasrge you a heafty fee, they give you a warning letter letting you know and then they may charge you after.
