Your new battery:

  • Only needs to be charged to 100%
  • Does NEED OR WANT! a full discharge ever

First time you charge you only need 100 % and its okay? I have red several guides on the internet about cellphones batteries (not about this on specifically though) that you should charge to 100 % and use it 'til the screen goes black the first 2-4 times for maximum capacity.

yes just 100%, it doesn't matter if you leave it on for longer, it just isn't necessary to leave it on.

i also thought that is what you are meant to do, but when i wrote this i looked it up more and it said to never fully discharge a Li-ion battery (the odd full discharge won't hurt it but isn't necessary and will hurt the battery if you keep doing it). apparently it is because this was the procedure for the nickel batteries and people think it still helps to condition the battery.

ps. i can get through a day using 40% battery life Smiley and i haven't used all of the tips lol, not all are suitable for me. i put my phone to charge while using to start with, but i didn't suggest that here just because some people are afraid of the old rules lol so easier to just say 100% before you use on the safe side. did the same thing with my k800 and it can last 4-5 days without a charge and it is 2.5 years old Cheesy

Very useful!  Grin
I would also recommend all users like me, who have a 24 month length contract (a LONG time) to have their HD2's insured and also check their insurances policies never looked as good on the second look!

My phone is 1 month old. I am not happy with the battery. Last night I had 100% at 1130 pm. I turned off everything in the taskmanager. No wifi, bluetooth or Internet going. When I woke up 730 am the battery showed 87%. So in 8 hours I had lost 13% just i standby mode. This means it will have about 61 hours standby time.

Nothing like this.

Standby time:

    * WCDMA: Up to 390 hours
    * GSM: Up to 490 hours

Is this normal? If I use the phone a lot it only last me for half a day.

I have installed WMLonglife to see if this could help me. It maybe helped a little bit, but I still need to charge the battery too often.

Yes its normal. A good 10% per night is OK for a smartphone running windows mobile.

i use under 10% a night. maybe you have programs running in the background.
download "touch x taskmanager" and after you install it, there will be a little symbol in the top right corner, click it and that will show you your running processes, close them all by using the box with the x's at the top left.
hopefully that is why your drain is so high.

i am on my 3rd day right now with 35%, going to try make it to tomorrow without charging lol

PS: i get 4-5% discharge per night.

I can't belive that there should be that big of a difference. I installed touch x taskmanager. What is the difference between this one and the one already in HTC2? I already used the pre installed task manager a lot, so there shouldn't be any extra drain to the battery.

I use the phone for work. Today the battery showed 20% after use from 8am to 2 pm. I had then talked about 90 mins.

How can HTC write this

Talk time:

    * WCDMA: Up to 320 mins
    * GSM: Up to 380 mins

Standby time:

    * WCDMA: Up to 390 hours
    * GSM: Up to 490 hours

when they are not even close to 1/3 of the time?

If 90 minutes talk used 20% then HTC is correct. 100% battery use would be 450 minutes. I use my phone to stream TV at night when in bed. Keeps the wife happy. She likes it quiet and dark. I need it to fall asleep. I can stream 1 hour of tv, around 200MB. So I have media player running and my internet connection open at max. I also have closeX process running which acts like a sleep timer and shuts the media player off after 1 hour. In the morining my battery is around 80%. So I don't find these figures too far off.

Yes using Touch X or Duttys task manager is much better. But for some reason I can still open the regular task manager and find apps listed as running.

i think he meant from 100% at 8am it went to 20% at 2pm, while talking for 90 minutes in that time frame.
that is a big drain
i've not talked today but from 35% i am now at 12% and it is night. i've done a load of wifi surfing and texting as the football has been on.

all i can guess is your device/battery is being weird or your settings are off. a hard reset might help but before that can you do this checklist.
1. 20-30% brightness on the screen.
2. go into BsBTweak > menu > data connection > disable.
3. enable the data connection through the same process when needed for surfing.
4. enable power saving on BsBTweak.

see how that goes for a day. i was looking at 50% use a day before, but i was watching about 1 hour of tv on those days. i kind of haven't bothered going in to uni at all in the past 2 weeks lol so no train journeys meaning no need for tv

Correct. 90 minutes talk and about 4,5 hours standby took almost 80% of the battery. The battrey indicator showed 20%. So something is serious wrong if you ask me.

I will try those things you wrote.

I understood it to be 90 minutes of total talk time in that time frame from 8-2. In that case the HTC specs are correct.

give them a try and get back to us. if it doesn't work back up everything do a hard reset which will wipe everything and reboot your ROM from scratch then test again.
