Thanks for the prompt answer to my cry for help Sunil,
The trouble is that I had tried to download that .rar file from megaupload, but when I try to open or unpack the contents of the .rar all it happens is that my VLC player opens up....and that's it.  Undecided
Maybe that's because I do not have winRar on this laptop (seems strange), I'm gonna try to download it on a desktop and see what happens.

OK , I managed to install the converter on a desktop but it seems like a trial version, every time you click on it , it asks you to purchase the program for 25$.
What happens if I don't?
Would it do its duty anyway?

Just to let you guys know, there is a definately a problem playing any videos back on your phone (whether they be recorded from your phone or transfered from PC) . . . . This problem occurs when you download the "youtube" app from the xda developers forum. I think it has something to do with a conflicting file that always remains in use once you install the app on your phone, but the phone needs to access this file to playback videos ( and from what I read there is no easy way around it, you either have this app . . . or . . . playback videos on your phone).

HOWEVER ................. To get round this you need to download the official youtube app directly onto your phone from the google website (please see my previous post).

I know I kind of said all this in the first post but it was confirmed after I finally managed to convert a divx file to mp4 then play it on my phone using video launcher,

Cheers

Sunil, I love you  Wink
PM me if you think I could help you the way you helped me.

@ djhackett
Never had the problem you mention , but maybe that's only to be expected since I always used only the official you tube app

@anyone smarter than me
Is'nt there a way to get rid of the two black bars on top and on the bottom of our gorgeous 4,3" screen while playing mp4 files?
Or alternatively is there a format better than mp4 to convert flv and avi files and which the HD2 would play?

The bars at the top and bottom are part of the actual video. You will have to use a video converter that crops out those bars. But while doing that it will also crop out some of the video on the sides. I am not familiar with many video converters. I know avs video converter will do this. Not sure which free converters will.

Hey folks, I've just installed the video player on my HD2 but I simply cannot find the program link/shortcut in my Start menu. I've tried to install it again, but it still does not show in the Start menu.

Any ideas what's wrong?

Thanks in advance  Wink

Excuse me , but where did you install it?
Use the path finder ( the loupe icon) to find the file you installed and click on it.
Probably you only transferred the installation file to your mem card (or device memory) without installing the app: to install it you must open it manually.

Hi plexus. I transferred it to my programs folder in the memory card. Then I went to that folder in the phone and executed the cab file to install the program. I restarted the phone, went to the Start area and looked for it. It's nowhere to be found? I tried the same procedure twice with no success.

I was wondering if maybe this has something to do with the fact that my original rom is in Danish language?

Thanks for your help!

First you should not be putting cab files in the program files folder on your phone. Make a folder for cab files or just leave it on the root of your card.

When you installed did you install to card or phone? Really shouldnt make that much of a difference. But it should have made a shortcut. If you hit the start hard key the newly installed program should be at the bottom of the list.

Yes, listen to those words of wisdom from Agoattamer, and don't worry about the ROM's version: mine is in danish too and it never gave me any problem (crossed fingers).

However, if I remember correctly, I think that on the specific thread on XDA devs it is recomanded to install the app (not the cab file!) on the device memory and not on the card.

Ok I managed to do it after following ago's instructions. However I had to find the application in my device and then copy short cut to my start menu. From that point on I was able to  access it easily. It's now on my homescreen.

I have no idea why the app didn't automatically appear in the start menu after installation though.
