Hiya fellow HD2'ers,

I'm at great risk here of asking something that has already been answered but I couldn't find the answer I was looking for when I searched so please bear with me...

I recently downloaded an MP3 ringtone I want to use and after looking here on this board for how to set this as my ringtone I found a post saying I needed to copy the file into a folder [windows/ring...] or somesuch.

However when I link up my HD2 to my laptop and select the Disk Drive option I can't seem to find the [Windows] folder at all?

I find [My Documents], [Bing], [CoPilot] and a few others but I can find no trace of any Ringtones (even the defaults) or any trace of a [Windows] folder at all?

What am I doing wrong?

Also; I was taking some pictures earlier with the Camera and then proceeded to delete them. Now I cannot get the pictures I had previously to show up, even though they are still present in the Phone it won't give me the option of selecting that Album any more???

Why is this? How can I fix it?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Easiest way of setting an MP3 as a ringtone is to put the file in your music folder on the device, select it then, menu, set as ringtone

Many thanks for your response.

I actually see now that I cannot "explore" the HD2 folders from my laptop in the way I had imagined.

That realisation has cleared up quite a few things for me as you might imagine.

Hiya...just to let you know you don't need to use the computer just to move files.

If you select the "start" icon to open up windows, scroll down and select "file explorer". From here you can go through all your files like you can on the computer.  Grin

And yes, you CAN explore HD2 folders from your laptop, i do it all the time?!
Its a bit slow but works fine. Good alternative to TotalCommander/Resco, if you dont have them installed, because you can choose to see all kinds of files.

I thought I would ask this question in this thread instead of creating a new one.

I know how to customise my ringtones easily and I have done it sucessfully but I am having a problem with doing the exact same thing for text messages. I have moved the mp3 that I want to the correct folder but it is not showing up; however I am still able to select it as a ringtone which I don't want to do.

Do I need to convert the MP3 into .wav in order to set it as a text message tone? If so can you recommend a reliable converter.

Thanks.

I have mp3's set as my text tone and my email notification. They need to be in the windows folder. Then they should show up. Lorin has said he could not use mp3's on his phone for some reason. It may have to do with bitrate and also I have mine as mono. He suggests you convert them to .wav.  The other pre-installed tones are all .wav.

I use audicity to make all my ringtones. Its a free download from the web.

The problem turned out to be much simpler than first thought, I was putting the mp3 in the 'ringtone' / 'rings' folder. Put it into the 'windows' folder and it worked, cheers Ago.

Hi,
I'm changing most of my ring tones ok. However, I'm trying use a wav file for "new Message" notifications. I have copied the wav to the "my documents\my ringtones" folder. It's not being detected. I am just getting the factory installed tones i.e. Alert-vector, Ring-abstracting etc.

Any ideas?

Rob.

Copy it to your windows folder. Notifications and ringtones are different.

Ok, I read every post in this thread and feel a little stupid. I played with my laptop and the phone and it took me forever until I finally found the Windows folder on the phone. Well, my problem is this: I have no idea how to move or put on music into that folder either on the phone itself or on my laptop with the phone connected to the usb port. Can someone please walk me through this step? That would be great  Cheesy
