go to xda-developers and get the "HSPL" for the HD2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433

After that, you can install any ROM (download from xda-developers, too).

What you guys are experiencing is a CID-lock. The Carrier (ID) disallows ROM updates that do not originate from that carrier (eg. Vodafone, T-Mobile, O2, etc.).
The HSPL (Hard Secondary Program Loader - a crack) disables the CID-lock.

It worked perfectly for me (Vodafone CID-lock).

Is the HSPL safe?
I just don't want to mess up my phone trying to upgrade my firmware?
I don't mean virus wise, I just mean would it invalidate my warranty? Or something like that?
Thanks

Yes your warranty will be invalid if you put a HSPL on your device.

Are you selecting the right ROM version on the HTC site? There are two currently showing.
1. Release Date: 2009-12-09 -
ROM Version:

Greek 1.48.482.4 ; Russian 1.48.411.1 ; Norway 1.48.409.1 ; Germany 1.48.407.1 ; Spain 1.48.412.2 ;

Netherlands 1.48.404.2 ; France 1.48.406.1 ; Czech 1.48.479.1 ; Poland 1.48.479.1 ; Italy 1.48.408.1;

United Kingdom 1.48.405.2

And a newer one Release Date: 2010-01-25
ROM Version:

Norway:1.66.409.1, Spain :1.66.412.1, Denmark:1.66.403.1, France :1.66.406.1,

Sweden:1.66.413.2, Italy:1.66.408.1, WWE:1.66.405.2

Notice this one is for a limited range of countries.

Is this why it rejects our serial number as I am having the same problem?

EDIT:  just tried the earlier version and got the same error so that isn't the problem.

Can someone explasin the CID lock to me please?
I bought the phone as sim unlocked, slapped my Virgin sim in and it worked fine.
How can I tell if it is CID locked and if it is remove the lock?
Thanks for any info.
I'd like to get the latest ROM in the thing before I mess about too much as it will reset it to factory when I upgrade the ROM I assume??

CID means your phone is locked to using certain branded or certain region roms. This does not unlock your phone if you are sim locked to a certain carrier. HSPL removes the lock so you can flash with any rom out there.  HSPL must be flashed on your phone. Yes it does void the warranty.  But you can flash back over the HSPL and the  rom with a correct signed rom for your phone. This will then remove the HSPL and you can return your phone then for warranty issues.

Read about it here.

Thanks for that. Looks interesting.
Sorry, I'm new to this machine so one last batch of questions..
I bought mine SIM unlocked but don't know it's origins. It has no branding logo either on the hardware or on screen.

How can I find out what/who's ROM is in it now? (I can find the version) and where to get a copy to roll back to if all goes breasts high on me.

If I go down this route what's the best current ROM for a UK based HT2 (currently on Virgin)? There seems to be loads to choose from and I'm easily confused  Huh Tongue

What are the odds of this all going wrong? I like to play and tinker but I'd like to keep the thing running as well! I know, I want it all ways don't I  Roll Eyes

Doesnt sound like you have a branded phone. I'm sure someone in your area could be of better help on this one.

Of course the most recent official version is 1.66. You would need to know where your phone originated to know what rom to use. There is way to tell from the serial number but I cant find that info at the moment.

Go to HTC.com. I assume living in the UK it takes you to HTC.com/UK. Try to download the rom from there using your serial number. If you want english then download the WWE version. If your serial number fails the check,  at the bottom of the page you will find HTC in other countries link. Try the HTC all europe site. If your phone is unbranded you will find the correct download eventually and will not have to use HSPL.

I know there are many on the forum from UK using virgin and can point you in the correct direction on where to look for your rom.

Just tried Europe and the worldwide sites and get the same result  Angry
So if anyone can help me sort out where it came from it would be greatly appreciated.
the serial no is HT9CLNW03156 if that means anything to anyone.
I can't think it would be another EU country as the interface would be in that language?
I got it from someone who got it as an upgrade and didn't want it.

If you are downloading the latest ROM update in the hope it fixes the know SMS problem then I'm afraid you may be disappointed. I am on Virgin and the 1.66.405 update went in okay, just didn't fix it!
